Welcome to another edition of the Week in Review. I spent half of the week in one of my favorite cities in the world – Toronto – showing off Forza Horizon 3 to press and fans alike at Canada’s annual Xbox event. Meanwhile, we had another busy week of news and updates in the world of Forza, including a look at the third week of Forza Racing Championship competition, a blast from Forza’s past coming to Xbox One, and our look at the final batch of cars coming to Forza Horizon 3. Let’s get you caught up!

ForzaRC Week 2 Recap

Week 2 of the Forza Racing Championship featured something for every kind of viewer. There was close-quarters racing as the likes of JSR Rayzer JDM, BAM ASIX13, and BAM Anto fought for positions all over the track. There was the redemption story of aTTax Johnson, fighting for a spot in the Grand Finals after missing out in Week 1. And of course there was drama, particularly in Race #2, where ESL eventually had to review the replay of a disputed start line accident. In the end, ESL ruled that a restart was not required and the drivers moved on to Race #3.

In the end, the day went to BAM ASIX13, BAM Anto, aTTAX Johnson, and CAR Chemical, who earned top four overall finishes and will be moving on to the Grand Finals on September 4. For a full review of Week #2, check out our recap in this week’s edition of Rear View Mirror.

FH3 Week 6 Garage

For our final week of car reveals, the Forza Garage series for Forza Horizon 3 ended with an eccentric boom, spotlighting three completely unique rides that highlight the diversity that exemplifies Forza Horizon 3’s vehicle roster. From the three-wheeled Reliant Robin to the classic Ford “Woody” and the Alumi Craft race buggy that is designed for the worst Australia can throw at it, we closed things out in the most fun way possible. Personally, I can’t wait to drive that Reliant (and yes, I know what you’re thinking: of course I want to see if I can tip it over, Top Gear-style). So now that the full car list has been revealed for Forza Horizon 3, which car are you planning on driving first?

Volkswagen

With our Forza Garage series wrapping up, I know that a lot of folks in the community have been wondering about a conspicuous manufacturer absence from the game: Volkswagen. With Forza Horizon 3, we’re bringing fans more than 350 cars to the game at launch, including manufacturers who have never appeared in a Forza game before. Our team works hard to license hundreds of brands for every Forza game; from small independent brands to major international automotive companies. Unfortunately, we can’t always align our fans’ desires with the interests of every licensor, as is the case with Volkswagen in Forza Horizon 3. As a result, we’re unable to include VW in the game.

Naturally, there are tons of VW fans here at Turn 10 and Playground Games and we’re as disappointed to share this update as our fans are to hear it. We hope to be able to restore VW to Forza games in the future.

Forza Horizon in September

Forza Horizon 3 is not the only game coming to Xbox One in September. Earlier this week, Xbox announced that the original Forza Horizon for Xbox 360 will be part of the Games With Gold program in September. Arriving alongside other great games like Earthlock, Assasin’s Creed: China, and the original Mirror’s Edge, Forza Horizon will be available for free to Xbox Live Gold members from September 1 – 15. Set in Colorado, the original Forza Horizon set the stage for the open-world fun that has become a standard for racing fans all over the world. What better way to welcome the newest entry in the Horizon series then by returning to the series’ roots and experiencing the open-road fun all over again?

Forza Motorsport 6 Free Gold Weekend

If you still haven’t bought Forza Motorsport 6 and are looking for a great chance to see what you’ve been missing, there’s no better time than this weekend. 2015’s Racing Game of the Year will be available for free to all Xbox Live Gold members this weekend. Gold members can download and play Forza 6 for free this weekend until 11:59 Pacific on Sunday. If that’s you, welcome to the game and I’ll see you online this weekend!
