Forza Week in Review 7-6-18

John Schommer
Friday, July 6, 2018

Hey Forza fans, Johniwanna here filling in for Mechberg, as he is out of town for a bit of well-deserved vacation. Cool stuff going on this week, so let’s get right into it.

#ForzaMonthly Show

Hopefully you tuned in to our second #ForzaMonthly show that was broadcast live this past Monday from our studio in downtown Seattle. It’s quite a production, with all the elements of what seems like a real television show. From the lighting, to the make-up, to the awesome 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast we had in studio, it was a blast to be a part of.

Fun aside, this is a super informative show where we talked about all the cool stuff coming out in the July update for Forza 7 and more. That update will be coming out on Tuesday July 10 by the way. In case you missed the show and want to take a look, I’ve embedded it below. If you just want to hear me start up that V12 in the Ferrari, skip to 1:18.

There was a lot to talk about including a tour of the Forza Horizon 4 Demo, which I played for my first time on the show. Game Director Jon Knoles took us through a few of the cool new features like steering angle upgrades and even gave us a sneak peek at a couple of the cars that will be a part of the Formula Drift Car Pack. Justin Pawlak’s Rousch Mustang and Josh Robinson’s Drift Ute were a great tease into that seven-car pack that can only be acquired if you digitally pre-order Forza Horizon 4. Cool thing is, you get the pack for both Horizon 4 and Forza 7.

Then we took a look at the Top Gear Car Pack trailer. Then it became clear that all the hype I had been spewing in the previous week’s streaming shows was not a bunch of hoopla. If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself. It’s worth noting, if you are a Forza 7 Car Pass owner, the Top Gear Car Pack is included free. If can also be purchased as a stand alone pack.

Not only is the Top Gear Car Pack coming next Tuesday but there are also two very special Porsche Spotlight cars that will be free for everyone. The 1971 Porsche 917 in it’s fabulous “Pink Pig” livery is coming your way with it’s Boxer V12 and enough grunt to excite even the most sedate Porsche lover. That racer is coupled with the very latest from Stuttgart, the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Did I mention they were free for everyone?

There are a ton of improvements coming in the July Update as well and Forza Game Director Chris Esaki was with us to talk through them as well as offer insight into some other features we are working on. For July though we will all get to enjoy much faster car select screens, something that I have been looking forward to as much as the rest of you. Good-bye laggy garage!

As of the July update, nearly all the cars in the game will become unlocked. Yes, you will still have to buy them with in-game credits, but you won’t have to wait for specialty dealer, or complete in-game tasks to get at them. Additionally, Prize Crates will have all cars removed from them. Changes to Multi-player giving the host the ability to the ability to kick players from private lobbies. We will publish a story detailing all the aspects of the July update on Monday July 9. However, all that and more is in the July #ForzaMonthly show video.

Welcome to Multiplayer

Also, just today, we released a new feature for Multiplayer in Forza 7. Specific “Welcome to Multiplayer" races that help teach new players how to race in Forza Motorsport 7. New racers in this hopper will be ghosted to lessen opportunities for impact. The goal is to still try and avoid each other, but if accidents happen, no one gets dinged. Something to check out, and I will show it off on #ForzaFriday.

We have some great content planned for this month to provide you with details on Forza Horizon 4 too. Starting with an edition of Inside Xbox on Tuesday July 10 at 11 a.m. That will be followed by a video put together by Playground Games featuring Studio Director Ralph Fulton. It’s the first in a series of shows that will run on Tuesdays at this time in July. This first show will focus on the Summer season and you can bet it will be full of details that you can only get here.

Your regular #TuesdayDrive show will follow these Forza Horizon 4 insightful specials. These shows will be broadcast on Mixer and Twitch.

Special Olympics eSports Tournament

Our own Co Pilot attended a very cool event this last week that brought eSports to the Special Olympics. These competitors had many strengths and set some amazing times. The following is Co Pilot’s summary of that event.

“On July 2nd, 2018 I had the most amazing opportunity to volunteer as an adjudicator at the first ever Special Olympics eSports tournament in Seattle, WA. Forza Motorsport 7 was lucky enough to be chosen as the official game for this industry changing event, and we were determined to make it big. Dozens of Turn 10 Studios employees, among countless others across Microsoft, dedicated their time to making this event have a solid, memorable impact on the world of gaming.”

“During the 4-hour event, 16 players on 8 teams comprised of a driver and their unified partner competed to take the first ever victory in this unique event. Competitors were chosen via specific events in several states at official Microsoft stores, where the top times were recorded, and their creators flown into Seattle to make history.”

“I have seldom met a more tightly knit, dedicated group of people so intensely focused on making this ground-breaking experience happen. At the end of the day we had our winning team “Dempsey” whom took home the one of a kind Special Olympics branded Xbox One S. I seriously wish I could transfer the energy of the whole event to you all via the internets, as it is a feeling unlike anything else to be a part of history being made.”
