Forza Motorsport Week in Review 3-18-16
Welcome to another edition of the Forza Motorsport Week in Review! Competition is the theme for this week’s wrap-up and we have a ton of news to get to. So… once more unto the breach, dear friends!
Forza 6 Online Tournaments
We’ve recently kicked off some exciting online competitions, notably our Lamborghini Super Trofeo race series, which began earlier this month. Today and next week, we’ll be welcoming two new Forza 6 online tournament events, one with our friends at Formula E and ESL, and the other kicking off today with Major League Gaming. Read on for details!
Formula E Race Off Pro Series
On March 23 the first ever FIA Formula E Race Off Pro Series virtual championship will begin, starting with a special Rivals event in Forza Motorsport 6. This championship will comprise of at least four rounds (see below for schedule), which will serve as a preview to the on-track action ahead of the remaining Formula E races on this season’s calendar. Next week’s Rivals event takes place on the Long Beach East circuit in a stock Formula E car and will end at midnight (GMT) on March 31. This event will act as the qualifier for a live online race event on April 2, hosted by ESL and featuring the top ten qualifiers from that week’s Rivals event.
The top-two from each of the four Pro Series finals races will then be invited to London in an all-expenses paid trip, where they will race off against the successful finalists from all the other events to contest the inaugural Race Off Pro Championship, and win a share of the €15,000 prize fund and other amazing prizes.
Here are the rest of the Formula E Race Off Pro Series tournament dates:
Round 1 - Time trials: March 24 to March 31, Final: April 2
Round 2 - Time trials: April 14 to April 21, Final: April 23

MLG Online Tournament
Starting today, our friends at Major League Gaming are kicking off a new free-to-enter series of weekly online tournaments. For the first time ever, Forza 6 players will be able to compete in both 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 team events. Using MLG’s built-in GameBattles system, Forza 6 players are invited to sign up at the MLG Forza Motorsport 6 page. The weekly series will culminate in a Finals on May 21, where weekly winners will be invited to take place in a live online finals event on May 21, to be broadcast from MLG Studios in New York City and on the MLG Web site.
For players looking to take part in this tournament, you’ll be running S-class cars on a variety of circuits in Forza Motorsport 6. For more information on how to get involved, and for rules, head over to MLG.tv/forza6.
Formula E Race Off 2
While the Rivals event for next week’s Formula E Race Off Series kicks off on Wednesday, March 23, Formula E’s Race Off 2 showcase event is taking place tomorrow in the UK! Forza fans might remember the original Formula E Race Off which happened a few months back, and pitted Formula E drivers Bruno Senna and Nico Prost against one another and a group of extremely fast Forza 6 players.
That Race Off event was so successful that it’s spawned a second edition, which will take place tomorrow, March 19, and star Formula E drivers Jerome D’Ambrosio and Sam Bird in the drivers’ seats. The event will be held at ESL Studios in Leicester, and begin at noon (GMT). For an opportunity to take part, fans will need to tune into the Twitch stream and fans will be given a chance to race online against Bird and D’Ambrosio by correctly answering questions on the day’s racing. Also, be sure and look out for some special Forza community guests, who will be making appearances during the broadcast. (We hear one of the guests has a penchant for driving limos in reverse).
Head over to the ESL Twitch channel to watch live tomorrow!
Super Trofeo Update
Amidst all of this eSports madness, we’ve now entered Week 3 of the Forza Motorsport 6 Lamborghini Super Trofeo race series! Earlier this week, the Week 2 gift cars were sent to all eligible players and now, all that remains is to find out who will cap off the first season with some delightful Week 3 gift cars (see below for a sneak peek). Remember, you’ve still got a chance to win two gift cars this week – one in this week’s Week 3 Rivals event and one in the Week 3 League, which kicks off today. Both events will be live until Monday at midnight Pacific, so don’t forget to get your time and/or laps in!
Next week, we’ll be compiling all our results from Season 1 and sending out the bonus cars – the 2015 Lamborghinin #63 Squadra Corse Hurácan LP620-2 Super Trofeo – which is the key to unlocking the Season 2 Rivals and League events. One thing of note: We will be working as quickly as possible to get that Hurácan bonus cars out to eligible players but the process does take time on our part. As soon as the cars are sent, we’ll be announcing it on our official Twitter account and in the Super Trofeo forum thread. Good luck and happy Week 3 racing!
Meguiar’s Car Pack
I’m sure I’m not alone when I offer a huge welcome to the Ferrari 488 GTB, one of the cars in the Meguiar’s Car Pack, which was launched this week for Forza Motorsport 6. The 488, the successor to the much-loved Ferrari 458, resembles its predecessor car in both body type and its ferocious abilities on the track. But the 488 differs most assuredly in its sound, thanks to its turbo powerplant, resulting in growling, huskier voice than the piercing 458. That power shows on the track too, where the 488 enjoys a top speed advantage of almost 20mph.
The 488 GTB has been one of the most requested cars for Forza Motorsport 6 and it’s great to bring it, as well as cars like the 1934 Alfa Romeo P3 and the race-ready 2015 Chevrolet #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype, into the world of Forza Motorsport 6. Our partners at Meguiar’s are getting involved with the fun too; you can head over to the Meguiar’s Facebook page to enter its Meguiar’s Car Pack photo contest, where winners will take home some amazing Meguiar’s car care products.

Max’s Community Car Wish List Analysis
If you’re a part of the Forza Motorsport community, you are probably familiar with the name ManteoMax. Max has been performing great services to the Forza community for a long time now, including legendary FAQ threads on our forums, Twitch moderation duties for our regular livestreams, and much more. Today I wanted to recognize another amazing contribution that Max has made to Turn 10 and the Forza community.
As many of you know, one of the most popular threads on the Forza forums are our car and track wishlist threads. These are places where fans can go to post the cars and tracks they would most like to see in a Forza game. While we have long paid attention to these threads as a matter of community input, their very size has always worked both for and against them. While it’s great to see people posting so much, the fact that the threads have grown to many hundreds of pages and thousands of entries means that it’s difficult to glean any trends from them.
Enter Max, who has spent the past few months performing the absolutely Herculean task of trying to collate all of those thousands of posts on the car wishlist thread into something that is more presentable and digestible to Forza fans and to us here at Turn 10. You can see the initial results of Max’s work in his dedicated forum thread.
I probably don’t need to tell you why work like this is important. Thanks to the postings from community members and Max’s efforts to organize it, we have a tremendous tool to help look at which cars matter most to the Forza community; cars like that Ferrari 488 GTB, for example, which was high on the list and, as you know now, released this week. Having this list doesn’t always mean we’ll always be able to tackle the cars in order of community priority. What it does mean is that we now have a fantastic lens on exactly which cars the community is asking for. Take a look at the thread to get more insight into how the Community Cars Wishlist thread stands and massive thank you to Max for agreeing to take on this task.
Look for a Q&A with Max on this project in Monday’s edition of Rear View Mirror!
Raceboy’s Building Basics
If you’re interested in tuning in Forza Motorsport 6 but don’t know where to start, then Raceboy77 has got you covered. The Forza community racer posted another in his ongoing series of Forza Tips videos, this time cover the basics of building up a car from scratch in Forza 6. Check it out:
J.F. Musial Q&A
This week we saw the long-awaited debut of the new documentary “Apex: The Making of the Hypercar,” which aired here in the U.S. on the NBC Sports Network. The film, which covers epic hypercars like the Koenigsegg One:1, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Porsche 918 and others. This week, Heavy Metal Affliction spoke with producer J.F. Musial about the making of the movie and his personal reflections on car culture.
Next week, HMA will be talking to Forza creative director Dan Greenawalt, who was interviewed for the Apex film. Look for it next Thursday!
That about wraps up another edition of the Week in Review. Tune in to our Twitch channel for our #ForzaFriday livestream, where I’ll be doing some multi-class racing with anyone and everyone who wants to join me. The action starts at 3 p.m. Pacific, see you there and happy racing!
