Forza Week in Review 2-24-17
Before we get started with the Week in Review, I wanted to take a moment to thank the Academy… the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, that is! At this week’s 20th anniversary D.I.C.E. Awards, Forza Horizon 3 took home the “Racing Game of the Year” award and all of us at Forza couldn’t be more pleased. Congratulations go to all the brilliant and hard-working folks at Playground Games and here at Turn 10 who worked with such passion and creativity to build this amazing game. Thanks to all the people who voted for us!
This week we have news on the brand new eSports update to Forza Motorsport 6, our Forza celebration of the Daytona 500, a spotlight on this week’s #Forzathon events, and a look ahead to March’s lineup as well. It’s time for the Week in Review, so let’s get to it!
eSports Update for FM6
This week we released a new update for Forza Motorsport 6 focused on new eSports and broadcast features . This update follows our November release, which added the broadcast ticker feature. With Tuesday’s update, players can now take advantage of brand new “hosting” features in private multiplayer matches, including manual grid ordering. Now, the host of a private match can move racers around the grid order, simply by moving them up and down the lobby using the Right Stick. In addition, once the grid is set, the host can toggle the new Grid Preview feature, which lets players and viewers alike “walk the grid” before the race begins.
This week’s update also adds new broadcast functionality to races, including new information panels like a mini-map and positional information, as well as a new player information screen that will showcase player-relevant information like the car they are driving, fastest lap, and more. Both of these new info panels can be toggled on or off and are available to be used in both private and public races when spectating.
Note that since this update went live, we have seen an issue where players are not able to spectate in a public lobby unless they leave that lobby and come back in. The team here is aware of this issue and we will be issuing a fix as soon as possible. I hope to be able to update you all on this fix in this space next week.
The biggest race on the NASCAR calendar is arguably the first one of the season – the Daytona 500, which kicks off this weekend. I’m personally curious to see the new three-stage NASCAR points system in action, to see how how it will change the viewing experience for what is already a thrilling high-speed oval race. If you listen to NASCAR representatives, this new format is going to shake things up for drivers and viewers alike.
With the NASCAR season kicking off, we’re celebrating on the Xbox and Forza worlds as well. First up, Xbox fans who love NASCAR will be able to experience their favorite race series with the brand new official NASCAR app, which is available on Xbox One and Windows 10. With the app you can follow along with the 2017 season, learn more about your favorite drivers and teams, watch exclusive video, and much more. The app is free to download on both Xbox One and Windows.
In Forza Motorsport 6, we’ve got a brand new Daytona-themed NASCAR Rivals event going up today starring the #4 Stewart-Haas Racing Jimmy John’s Super Sport. You can find the “Daytona Challenge” event in the Community Monthly channel of Rivals in Forza Motorsport 6.
New Cycled Production Hopper Reminder
Have you contributed any ideas for our upcoming Cycled Production hopper? As I mentioned last week, we’re working on a new multiplayer hopper in Forza Motorsport 6 and we’re looking for input from the Forza community. All you need to do is post your best car/track ideas in this thread on the forums. No DLC cars or tracks but, other than that, we’ll be pulling some of our favorite ideas from the thread into the new hopper when it goes live. Here’s your chance to contribute something that everyone can take part in, so don’t be shy!
I hope everyone had a chance to grab the Ferrari 599xx in Tuesday’s #Forzathon event in Forza Horizon 3. Sure it was a bit involved – you needed to complete the entire menu of challenges to earn the car -- but was it ever worth it. The 599xx simply belongs in Forza Horizon 3; it’s aggressive, brash, and extremely fast. In other words, a perfect #Forzathon Reward car. We’ll have more chances to grab the 599xx in the future but, for now, all eyes are turned to this weekend’s challenges. Here’s a look at what we’ve got in store for you:
If you can’t get enough #Forzathon in your life, then you’re going to love what’s coming in March.
March #Forzathon Preview
No doubt February has been a marquee month for #Forzathons but I’m predicting March is going to be even better. That’s because of the sheer amount of awesomeness that players can earn – including a crop of awesome bonus cars, like new Horizon Edition cars, and some long-awaited Forza Horizon 3 debuts. Check it out:
I don’t know what I’m more excited for: all those delicious Horizon Edition cars, or that sweet, sweet Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, which is one of those cars that nearly every Forza fan has wanted to see in Forza Horizon 3. It’s true: March just can’t get here fast enough!
Heavy Metal Affliction – Cadillac Spotlight
If you have had a chance to drive the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V from the Playseat Car Pack, you know how awesome the latest Cadillacs are. But did you know Cadillac invented the electric starter and a host of other innovations over the last century? Maybe not, in any case, the latest edition of Heavy Metal Affliction shines a light on the amazing story of Cadillac.
We’ve got another busy #ForzaFriday livestream today and we’re ready to kick off your weekend, Forza-style. We’ll be spending some time in the weekend #Forzathon challenges as well as a brand new Bucket List created by the team here in the studio. From there it’s time to head back to Forza Motorsport 6 for some public hopper racing before we end the show with another race at the Nürburgring in our Random Ring Race series.
