Forza Motorsport Week in Review 10-2-15

Brian Ekberg
Friday, October 2, 2015

If you’re reading this, chances are you are already playing Forza Motorsport 6. But here’s a crucial question: How are you getting your Forza fix when you’re away from your Xbox One? One option might just be the official Forza Motorsport 6 soundtrack, which just dropped onto music services last week. Composed by Kaveh Cohen and Michael Nielsen, the Forza 6 OST features 38 songs from the game, and is now available for purchase and/or streaming on services like Apple Music, Groove Music for Xbox, Spotify, and more. We’ll have more from Cohen and Nielsen in the near future… in the meantime, happy listening!

Now let’s get on with the rest of the Week in Review!

New Leagues – C-Class Ghost, V8 Supercars

This week’s batch of Forza Motorsport 6 Leagues has been a fun one – the Track Toys League and the Ghost League were a nice mix. As I mentioned last week, we plan on keeping the Ghost League around for a while and this week we’ll be switching it over to C-Class cars. We’ll say goodbye to Track Toys for the time being and will instead be welcoming a league devoted to V8 Supercars. The new Leagues will go into effect on Sunday, so make sure you get some time in with the current batch before the new events arrive!

Making the Forza 6 Commercial

Ever wonder how the Forza Motorsport 6 commercial – featuring all the Ford GT racing through classic racing games – was made? Check out this interview that the folks at FX Guide published on the subject, featuring a chat with VFX Supervisor Andy McKenna as well as Head of 3D Kirk Shintani and CG Supervisor John Cherniak.

Ultimate Acura Simulator

We came across this video this week, featuring a Forza fan who has built one of the cooler, more unusual racing rigs we’ve ever seen, featuring parts from a real 1998 Acura GSR for that extra “oomph” of authenticity. Check it out:

While the rig itself is great, I think I was more impressed with the creator’s son, who showed off some awesome driving skills for someone his age. I mean, manual + clutch, wheel and pedals, no assists, all while sitting in the front seat of the “car”! Great stuff!

Look for more on this unique racing rig in an upcoming edition of our In Focus community series.

‘Drive to Win’ Winners

Massive congrats to the ten winners of our recent Forza Motorsport 6 Drive to Win contest, which featured players from all over the world battling it out on a special Rivals event starring Bathurst and the Xbox Racing #17 Ford Falcon FG X. The winners will receive a trip to Australia to attend the Bathurst 1000! Here’s the gamertags of the winning drivers:

Berzerker NZ

OG SmoothGuy

Big Sean 78

Once again, congratulations, and enjoy the trip!

Heavy Metal Affliction: Forza 2 to S2000

I really enjoyed this week’s edition of Heavy Metal Affliction. And no, I’m not just saying that because the article featured a Honda S2000! In fact, I loved the story because of its focus on a former Forza community member who turned his love of tuning in Forza Motorsport 2 into a real-life tuning business, creating awesome cars for customers. Check out the story of SwiftWolf R (some of you old schoolers might remember him?) and his awesome S2000!

Forza 4 DLC Update

An update on Forza 4 DLC that I posted earlier in the week in the Forza Forums: Forza Motorsport 4 DLC has officially been “end of lifed”. This means that this content can no longer purchased by Forza 4 players; however, those that have previously purchased the DLC content will be able to re-download that content should they wish to do so.

EB Expo Happening Now

If you’re an Xbox fan in the Sydney, Australia area, your weekend plans are set! Stop by the EB Games expo at Olympic Park and try your skills at Forza Motorsport 6 this weekend. The show is open to the public on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Check out the EB Expo site for more information and, if you’re attending the show in person, be sure and set some quick times!

Next Content Update: 10/6

Next Tuesday promises to be a big one for Forza 6 players, as that’s the day we’ll post our next content update for Forza Motorsport 6. This update will feature a number of fixes and gameplay improvements; and I’ll have a breakdown of those updates on Tuesday when the content update hits. In addition, Tuesday will also see the release of the first official monthly car pack for Forza Motorsport 6. I don’t want to tease much – but this pack is fantastic one. I can’t wait for you all to see it. In the meantime, our own Johniwanna has posted a clue thread in the Forza Forums which you can visit and post your best guesses of which cars will appear in the pack based on his purposefully vague clues. We’re awarding credits to some of you who guess – even if it’s a bad guess – so get in there and give it your best shot!

Today happens to be the annual Microsoft Car Show on the main Microsoft campus – and you can bet Johniwanna is there with bells on, snapping photos and attending some of the seminars that are being held at the show. Look for a full report in Monday’s edition of Rear View Mirror. Until then, have a great weekend, be sure and tune in to our #ForzaFriday livestream beginning today at 3 p.m. Pacific, and we’ll see you next week!
