Forza Horizon 2 @ E3 2014!
Get ready to leave your limits, Forza fans, because Forza Horizon 2 is coming on September 30! Available exclusively for Xbox One and Xbox 360, Forza Horizon 2 is the latest open-world racing game in the Forza series. Developed by Playground Games, Forza Horizon 2 brings the action-packed racing from the original Forza Horizon onto the Xbox One with a massive, wide-open world brought to life in stunning detail.
The Horizon Festival returns in Horizon 2 and, this time, it’s bigger, better, and more beautiful than ever before. Your location of choice is southern Europe – from the south of France to the Amalfi Coast in Italy, and tons of points in between. This exotic location is brought to life as a massive, living open world that’s built for exploration, flat-out speed, and action-packed driving.
In Forza Horizon 2, the freedom to explore is redefined. Not only is the world bigger than the original Forza Horizon, it’s also a truly open world, with three times the play space to race and explore in the cars of your choice, on and off road. In Forza Horizon 2, your automotive adventure is taken to a new level the moment you leave the tarmac and head out on a path of your own choosing. That might mean running through a field of crops and bursting through hay bales as you go, or crashing through a fence and mowing through a vineyard at ludicrous speeds, or taking a shortcut you discovered on the fly; whatever it takes to get you across the finish line in first place.
Creating Forza Horizon 2’s world is more than just building a pretty place to race – we wanted to bring that world to life. That means the return of a dynamic night/day cycle, complete with working headlights for each car in the game. It also means dynamic weather. For the first time in any Forza game, you’ll need to contend with real weather effects as you drive. We’ve created spectacular weather effects that are beautiful to behold, and every car in the game features authentic working windshield wipers, making cockpit view more immersive than ever before. Weather in Forza Horizon is more than just beautiful to look at – one slide in the pouring rain will be all it takes to convince you that you’ve never driven a Forza like this before.
Part of creating the ultimate car fantasy is in building the ultimate car list. For Forza Horizon 2 – we gathered a collection of more than 200 of the world’s greatest cars; the kinds of cars you’d expect to see at an automotive celebration like the Horizon Festival. Perhaps no car represents the spirit of Forza Horizon 2 better than our cover car: the 2014 Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4. There’s no mistaking that classic Lambo form – or that unmistakable bright yellow paint job – and, as soon as you get the Huracán on the open roads of Horizon 2, you’ll realize exactly why this car has garnered such excitement from car fans. And it’s only the start; modern supercars, extreme off-roaders, classic muscle cars – with this kind of variety, you’re never that far from your new favorite car.
You’ll be taking those amazing cars on an automotive adventure across a beautiful and diverse European landscape, with more than 700 events to compete in, totaling well over 100 hours of gameplay. Horizon 2’s Career is based around amazing road trips, exploring the best of what southern Europe has to offer. For example, take a trip from Amalfi to Nice and on to southern France, competing in race events as you go. The Road Trip Career adapts to your choices; no matter what car you choose, there’s always new adventure waiting, whether you’re racing, hunting down exotic barn-find cars, or unlocking exciting bucket list challenges designed to test your skills in a variety of awesome cars. The choice of how you progress in Forza Horizon 2 is up to you.
Naturally, how you drive in Forza Horizon 2 is just as important as the results you earn at the end of each race. That’s because, as you drive, you’re always racking up skill points for your stylish driving. You’re always earning experience points and leveling up in Horizon 2, earning you new Horizon Festival wristbands and access to new events to try out. This goes for whether you are competing in official race events, playing online with friends, or just hooning around the world in Solo play.
From catching massive air to sideswiping roadside objects, weaving through traffic, nailing a perfect drift or hitting top speeds, you’ll be rewarded for showing off your skill behind the wheel. From point-to-point races to Showcase events that pit you against a high-speed locomotive, attack helicopters, and jet-fighters, you never know where the next turn will take you.
Forza Horizon 2 for Xbox One was specifically developed to take advantage of the tremendous power of the console. That goes far beyond gorgeous graphics, too. The Drivatar cloud-based AI system, made famous in Forza Motorsport 5, returns in Forza Horizon 2, which means you’ll be able to race against the Drivatars of your friends, club members, and the rest of the world even when they aren’t online.
Drivatar technology has evolved since Forza 5’s release, as millions of players have logged countless hours of gameplay and it’s taken another step forward in Horizon 2, as the technology has evolved to adapt to the open-world environment of the game. As you race, you’ll see Drivatar-powered cars making their own decisions about how best to get to the finish line; driving aggressively, making space where necessary, even leaving the road altogether to find the best path to victory.
Cruising around in Solo mode is one thing – but Forza Horizon 2 was meant to be played online and it’s here that the game truly reaches a new level. When you want to go online, the transition is seamless, offering loads of ways for you to jump instantly into online play, with no waiting and no lobbies.
Join friends and free roam together, exploring the vast open world of Forza Horizon 2 with fully synchronized time of day, weather and traffic. Where you go and what you do online is up to you, and you can do it with up to eleven of your friends. Compete in races, cooperate together in Bucket List challenges, and team up in Playground modes like King and Infected. Online Car Meets throughout the world are a great new way to meet up with like-minded players and show off your cars, hang out and chat, share designs and tunes, or compete in head-to-head Showdown races. In addition, you can form or join a Car Club in Horizon 2 with up to 1000 members – with all of the customization options you’d expect from Forza, your club can become a community in its own right.
As you explore the world, you’ll be able to take advantage of Horizon 2’s all-new onboard assistant ANNA. Part GPS system and part game guide, ANNA can give you directions to any spot on the Forza Horizon 2 map, including the most relevant challenge for the car you’re driving. If you’ve got a Kinect for your Xbox One, you’ll be able to control ANNA with your voice, leaving your hands free to get on with the business of collecting victories. ANNA will also make intelligent recommendations based on your progress through the game. If your friends kick off a new Online Road Trip, ANNA will alert you and offer to seamlessly connect you into their online match. At any point in the game you can ask ANNA, “What should I do next?” and she’ll reply with great options designed specifically for you.
Music is at the heart of the Horizon Festival, and it’s also central to the Forza Horizon 2 experience. You’ll have access to eight radio stations, featuring a mix of amazing music across a huge variety of genres. There are three Horizon Festival stations, all curated by BBC Radio One DJ Rob da Bank. In addition there are three all-new radio stations curated by cutting-edge independent music labels, doubling the amount of songs and diversity.
As you’ve seen, Forza Horizon 2 is a thrilling new take on the open-world racing concept. That said, if you’re a longtime Forza player, you’ll be right at home here. Not only does Horizon 2 feature the same kind of customization options you’ve come to expect from Forza games (yes, you can create custom liveries for your car and, this time around, you can TUNE any car in the game to your liking), but you can also adjust the difficulty to a level that suits you. Whether you like to roll with the assists, or you want to experience Forza physics at the edge of speed, the choice is yours.
Over the coming months, we’ll have much more to say about Forza Horizon 2 – more cars to unveil, more areas of the world to explore, and new features to unveil. Stay tuned to the site in the weeks ahead and get ready for Forza Horizon 2’s launch on September 30!
