The Reliant Motor Company has roots from the Raleigh Bicycle Company who discontinued the manufacture of their three-wheeled vehicles. Former Raleigh works manager T.L. Williams and a colleague took it upon themselves to redesign a motorcycle-based box van and built the first model in William’s back yard. Models evolved from what originally was little more than a motor-tricycle with a box on the back to a field of cars (both three and four-wheeled) that were produced for more than 60 years.
