Forza Motorsport 4: Week in Review 1/13/12

Hello and welcome to the Week in Review. Or perhaps I should just say: Surprise! After spending the last few weeks putting the finishing touches on the Hyundai Veloster Bonus Pack, which was released this week as a free download in Forza Motorsport 4, it was a great relief to finally unveil it to the Forza community. In addition to the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo (which was unveiled by Hyundai at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show on the same day the pack was released on Xbox LIVE), the Hyundai Veloster Bonus Pack also includes the 2011 Hyundai #67 Rhys Millen Racing Veloster as well as a brand new Autovista experience starring the Veloster Turbo. This is the first new Autovista experience we’ve done for Forza 4 since the game’s release and, I don’t know about you, but I think the Veloster Turbo holds its own nicely against the rest of the cars in Autovista mode, if for no other reason than it’s a car I can actually afford!

Beyond the release of the Veloster Bonus Pack, we’ve also got a few other exciting Hyundai contests happening: the Hyundai Veloster: Forza Motorsport 4 Time Trials have kicked off; in this contest, registered players will have a chance to qualify for next month’s finals event in Rivals Mode. The completion has been furious so far and with this qualifying round set to end on January 23, I suspect the top times will continue to fall rapidly. Top prize is a 2012 Veloster, so good luck to all the players who are entered!

Speaking of winning a car, last week’s publishing troubles on the site kept us from officially congratulating community member Armipotent Adam for winning the THR Secret Car Design Contest here on so I’d like to rectify that here and now. Adam’s awesome race livery design took the top votes from Xbox LIVE users among five finalists and, as a result, he took home a new Hyundai Veloster as the grand prize winner. You can find Adam’s design on the Forza 4 storefront; in fact, he’s created two versions of the livery: the original design for the Genesis Coupe and a version made for the 2013 Veloster Turbo that Adam created this week.  You can find the Veloster in Forza 4 in the "Turn 10 Picks" section of the storefront, if you’re interested.

King of the Track Update

Have you beaten CJ Wilson yet? I suspect that’s a question lots of MLB players in the American League West will be asking themselves once the 2012 baseball season starts up. But, as Forza 4 players, you’ve got a chance to take on the newly minted starter for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim right now. After all, CJ is a dedicated racer owner of the CJ Wilson Race team, and a big Forza fan. Earlier this month, CJ put his money (or, rather, a signed CJ Wilson Racing racing suit) where his mouth is, demonstrating his skill in this month’s King of the Track Challenge. CJ’s posted time of 1:13.980 on this month’s King of the Track Rivals Mode event is a strong showing for the pitcher; at last count, he was well within the top 50th percentile of all times on the board.

That said, there is still time to take CJ’s time down. When this round of the King of the Track Challenge shuts down at the end of the month, everyone who set a time will receive a 2012 Pagani Huayra (you must own the January Jalopnik Pack to redeem this prize). If you manage to top CJ’s time, you’ll earn a 2003 Ferrari Challenge Stradale with a custom CJ Wilson Racing livery. The overall top time will also win the aforementioned signed racing suit.  Good luck to everyone!

January VIP Car Battle

Good news Forza 4 VIPs: We’re kicking off our next VIP Car Battle today on our official Facebook page. This week-long battle will decide which car that Forza 4 VIPs will receive at the end of the competition. This time, we’ve got a treat for you unicorn hunters out there: this three-car VIP battle will feature nothing but unicorns. Namely the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe, 2004 Honda Mugen Civic Type-R, and the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500. The voting starts today and will run for a week, ending on Friday, January 20! So, you know, rock the vote and stuff.

Online Multiplayer Issue Investigation

Last week I put a thread up on the forums regarding Turn 10’s ongoing investigation into multiplayer connectivity issues in Forza 4, specifically involving crashes during loading. We’re asking anyone and everyone who has had trouble with online connectivity issues in Forza 4 to contribute to this thread so we can gather as much data as possible on what’s been happening. Specifically we need you to answer the following questions:

  • What car were you using and did it have a custom livery or car setup?
  • What device is your DLC (if any) installed to? What device is your profile saved to?
  • Roughly, what were you doing from the time you loaded the game to the time you hung at the load screen?
  • What happens specifically when you hang? Does audio cut out, does lobby voice continue, do you see any graphical corruption on screen, does it eventually lock up or just keep spinning on the loading screen?
  • How often do you hang like this while loading and does it occur in other non-multiplayer races?

Please take a look at the forum thread and answer those questions to the best of your ability. We appreciate your patience with this as we continue to work through the issues.

Thanks for reading this week’s edition of the Week in Review. We’ll see you next week!
