Forza Motorsport 4: Week in Review 6/15/12

Brian Ekberg
Friday, June 15, 2012

With another jam-packed week in the Forza world in the books, it’s still difficult not to look forward to this weekend. After all, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is here! Getting excited for the biggest endurance race of the year is easy but, this year, we’re even more pumped to be talking Le Mans, because Forza Motorsport is an official sponsor of the race. As you take in the race action beginning on Saturday, whether you’re at the track or watching online or on television, you’ll see the Forza logo proudly displayed on the track, along the Mulsanne Straight and at the newly renamed Forza Motorsport chicane.

In addition, we’ve got a crew on-hand at Le Mans all weekend long, manning our Forza Motorsport tent, running tournaments and giving demos of Forza Motorsport 4 where you can drive the 2013 SRT Viper but you can also get your hands on Forza Horizon! This is the same demo that we showed the world at E3 a few weeks back so race attendees will be among the first people in the world to play the newest expression of the Forza universe! If you’re on-hand at the race this weekend hit us up on Twitter with the hashtags #forza4lemans or #forzahorizon and let us know what you think!

If you’re not able to attend the race, never fear, we’ve still got a weekend full of Le Mans fun ahead online in Forza Motorsport 4. Here’s a quick summary:

Turn 10 Track Day – Watch the race with the Forza community team. Join us on our official Facebook page (click on the Turn 10 Track Days logo near the top of the page) as we chat with you throughout the race weekend. Expect trivia, a few unicorn giveaways here and there, and, yes, bacon.

Game With Dev – On Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. Pacific, we’ll be holding a special extended Game With Dev event. The Forza community team will take a break from watching the Le Mans race and jump into Forza Motorsport 4 to race with you! As always, we’ll be using our Facebook chatroom as our home base, so be sure you’re there for all the action, the unicorn cars, and the… well, I’ll say it again: bacon.

Le Mans Hoppers and Rivals Mode events – This weekend only we’ll be putting up some Le Mans-themed online hoppers and Rivals Mode events. You’ll find the new hoppers in the “Celebrate Le Mans” category heading they will include two lobbies: “2.4 Hours of Le Mans” and “Le Mans 360,” the latter of which is a gargantuan 360-lap race in R1 cars around the famed Le Mans circuit. If you’ve got the fortitude for such a challenge, take a picture of your completed race (360 laps of 360 laps completed) and send it to us at We’ll award those who finish this events with copious amounts of unicorn cars. After all, you earned it.

New Rivals Mode events include “Le Mans Legend” and “Championship Lap” and both will be found in the “Community Monthly” section of Rivals Mode. All of these events will set live tonight and will only be available to Forza 4 players this weekend. So celebrate Le Mans and get in on the fun while you have the chance!

Dan Talking Forza Horizon

The awesome post-E3 news for Forza Horizon keeps coming. Earlier this week, Turn 10 creative director Dan Greenawalt joined comedian Adam Carolla on the CarCast. In a wide-ranging (and often hilarious) conversation about cars, the guys talk about their love for all things automotive, and Dan introduces Adam and his co-host Matt D’Andria to Forza Horizon and describes why Horizon is the next great step in the Forza franchise. In addition, Dan gives Matt a tour of the Forza Horizon-liveried Audi R8 (one of several Horizon-themed supercars that were on-hand in LA during E3-week) and the pair check out a Cadillac CTS-V. Here’s a video clip of Dan and Matt checking out the R8:

How Do Cars End Up in Forza?

Have you ever wondered how we end up getting all of the incredible cars in the Forza Motorsport series? While we’ve covered the technical side of car production in the past, there’s also the business side of things which is equally as fascinating, as this recent article from Fast Company explains.

Speaking of DLC cars, this week we posted the latest edition of our “FYI About DLC” series; where our resident car expert John Schommer takes a deeper look at some of the car’s appearing in Forza 4 DLC. This month we’re focusing on the Meguiar’s Car Pack and John has dug up some awesome historical footage of some of the cars in action, including the 1987 RUF CRT Yellowbird and, his favorite, the 1963 VW Bug. This series is one of my favorites on so give it a read. Who knows? It might just inform your next car purchase the next time you’re in Forza 4.

As always, we’ve got a lively “FYI About DLC” thread going and the Forza community is bringing the knowledge on this month’s crop of cars. Feel free to add your automotive trivia to the mix—John will be awarding unicorns for his favorite bits of dropped knowledge all month long.

Xbox Summer Stadium Tournament
Attention European Xbox fans, have you heard of the Xbox Summer Stadium? This 8-week calendar of the best sports entertainment and gaming will include a season-long tournament and weekly challenges to celebrate the extraordinary human feats and historic events happening this summer. And Forza Motorsport 4 is part of the action! Starting next Friday, we’ll begin a special series of Rivals Mode events available only to European players as part of the Summer Stadium event. The qualifying round will be open from June 22 to July 5. Look for more details on the event soon and, in the meantime, check out the official rules for more information.

More Le Mans Fun
As we prepare for this weekend’s Le Mans activities, here’s a few more Forza-related items to get you in the mood for all the motorsports action. First up is Forza community member AJZERO’s awesome forum thread on Le Mans, dubbed “24 Hours of Forza”. This huge post features a very personal look at AJ’s love of Le Mans and Forza and will culminate in his own personal running of the “24 Hours of Forza” in a public lobby he will be organizing. It’s a great, passionate read and if it doesn’t fire you up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans (or for Forza) then you need to check your pulse.

And here’s a fun (and more than a little emotional) Le Mans tribute video created in Forza 4 by Forza community member bryUK:

French Forza Site Tours the Turn 10 Tent at Le Mans

Contributors to the French Forza Motorsport site have put together a tour of the Forza Motorsport tent at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. If you don't read French you can translate the site to get a pretty good understanding of what is being offered there. The Forza Horizon demo they captured speaks for itself no translation required. Check out this link to see their pictures, video and general impression of the tent. It looks like a heckuva good time, while waiting for the race to start.

“The Viper is Coming”
One final bit of news before we wrap things up and prepare for a busy weekend of Forza 4 fun. If you’re been eagerly awaiting the release of the 2013 SRT Viper for Forza 4, I’m happy to tell you that the pack will be available on June 22! This will be a FREE download in Forza Motorsport 4 and will include both a drivable version of the Viper as well as a Viper Autovista experience. As a free car in Forza 4 and the cover car of Forza Horizon, the Viper is sure to be a fan-favorite, so make sure you get yours when the pack is released next Friday!

To paraphrase the sign-off of TopGear’s Jeremy Clarkson, “And on that bombshell, good night!”
