Forza Motorsport Week In Review 10-25-13
Back at gamescom 2013, we revealed that the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit would be making its long-awaited debut in Forza Motorsport 5. We talked about the track and how it would come to life thanks to the power of the Xbox One, but we weren’t able to show it because, frankly, it wasn’t ready yet. Well, for Spa, the time for talk has ended and, this week, we finally lifted the curtains on Spa which, along with Bathurst, is one of the most requested tracks in the history of the Forza Motorsport series. I’ll set my normal enthusiastic editorializing aside for a moment and let the video speak for itself:
Showing off this video is like breathing a huge sigh of relief and I know, for many Forza fans out there, it’s a kind of good-news/bad-news situation. The good news: The track looks amazing. The bad news: We’re still a month out from launch and being able to actually DRIVE Spa. Having driven Spa for myself, I can say it definitely lives up to the hype – a long and beautiful lap, with challenge at every corner. And when I say “corner,” I’m talking about some of the most famous turns in the world – from the first-gear turtle crawl of La Source to arguably the greatest high-speed sweeper in the motorsports world: Eau Rouge to Raidillon. As Fernando Alonso said, “[Eau Rouge] is an important corner for the driver’s feeling. It makes a special impression every lap, because you also have a compression in your body as you go through the bottom of the corner. It is very strange – but good fun as well.”
While you won’t feel the compression in your body in Forza Motorsport 5 as you tackle Eau Rouge, the corner is still a serious test for the size of your attachments and laps are often made (or lost) thanks to a driver’s commitment to going flat out through Eau Rouge and up through the hill at Raidillon. And that’s just the beginning of the lap. With serious tests of cornering skill coming at Les Combes, Rivage, and the rest, Spa-Francorchamps is long, demanding, and so much fun.
Of course, Spa wasn’t the only news-maker in this week’s edition of the Week in Review…
IGN @ 2013 Bathurst 1000
The recently wrapped 2013 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 was held just a few short weeks ago and the Xbox One Racing Team’s amazing success at the race is still reverberating around the motorsports world. Recently, IGN’s Luke Reilly posted an in-depth feature story of his Bathurst experience, the Xbox One Racing Team, and their outstanding performance at the race. It’s a fantastic read, one that offers a lot of insight in what it takes to form a team and be successful in short order, while competing against race teams who have been together all season long.
Arstechnica Covers the Cloud, Drivatar and First Drive Impressions
The folks at arstechnica talk about the impressions they took away from a chance to play Forza Motorsport 5 in one of their latest articles.
Additionally, in talking about different techniques employed by the average racer versus what real race car drivers do when attacking a track in Forza Motorsport they gain some insight from SRT Viper driver Dominik Farnbacher, who is quite a gamer.
They also had a chance to talk plainly with Turn 10 creative director Dan Greenawalt regarding the power of the cloud in relation to Forza 5’s Drivatar feature. This conversation leads to some eye-opening facts of what could be done before the integration of cloud services and what is done with Xbox One and Forza Motorsport 5.

4.The original was supercharged, but this one is even faster.
Post your best guesses in the WIR thread. Have fun! Unicorns will be gifted to correct guesses. Hmmm, I might even gift to incorrect guesses to keep you off-track. I can’t wait for DLC clue threads, teasing, torture and plenty of good times. – Johniwanna
One quick reminder before we put the wraps on another edition of the Week in Review: the Games on Demand version of Forza Horizon is now on sale on Xbox Live. The game will run you $15 and the sale will last until November 5 so, if you haven’t yet made the trip to the open roads of Colorado, now is a great time to get in.
So that about wraps it up for another crazy week in Forza Land. Now, next week. My goodness, next week. Next week is going to be something else, let me tell you. There will be news. There will be more reveals. Cars. Tracks. Surprises. Next week. Yeah, I’m liking next week. See you then!
