Forza Motorsport 4 Week in Review 7/15

Let’s talk cars. After all, that’s what we do here at Turn 10 Studios. Our goal with Forza Motorsport 4 is to create an entirely new automotive experience, both for long-time fans of the series who are returning and for people who may have never played a videogame before but have a deep and abiding passion for automobiles. The way I see it, you don’t need to be a great racer to enjoy Forza 4. Or a great painter, or photographer, or drifter for that matter. You don’t need to be great at anything to have an awesome time with the game. All you really need is an interest in cars, an interest we hope to stoke into a full-fledged obsession when Forza 4 is released starting on October 11.

So with that in mind, this week’s Week in Review is all about the cars of Forza 4: new cars on the horizon, and ways you can get involved with the cars of Forza 4 even before the game is released.

Forza Garage

First up is our brand new Forza Garage feature. In case you missed its debut yesterday on, this is a brand new Thursday series that will put the spotlight on the hundreds of cars that will be in Forza 4. Here’s how it works: Each weekday we’ll be announcing a certain number of Forza 4 cars on our Facebook or Twitter account and, each Thursday, we’ll have a full wrap-up of the previous week’s announcements, along with some a special feature on select cars that we feel deserve the extra attention. Forza Garage will also be the place to find out about what tracks are coming to Forza 4.

In this week’s debut, we featured the 1993 McLaren F1 and the 2009 Ferrari California, and announced the 2009 Alfa Romeo Brera Italia Independent, the 2008 Lamborghini Reventon, and the 1995 Ferrari F50. Beginning next week, look out for our Facebook and Twitter car announcements each weekday and, remember, we want to hear from you. The more active you guys are with our car announcements, the more cars we will announce. It’s like the Circle of Life. But with cars.

Ask Alex

In addition to the Thursday Forza Garage feature, we’ll also be debuting a new feature in next week’s edition of the Week in Review and we need your help.  Each week, our community car expert, Alex Kierstein, will be answering your questions in a special feature called “ASK ALEX.” As your resident car geek, Alex’s job is to get to know each and every car in the Forza 4 garage: its history, its performance, and more. So if you’d like to know more about the cars of Forza 4, how different cars stack up against one another, or if you’d like to just pick Alex’s brain for its wealth of automotive trivia, send us an e-mail to with the subject line “ASK ALEX,” or look for the thread on our forums. If we choose your question, we’ll give you a shout-out and send you a special Forza-related thank you gift. So send in those questions now!

E3 2011 Trailer

Call me biased, but I don’t think there was a better video at E3 2011 than the Forza Motorsport 4 trailer, which we finally debuted on earlier this week. Watching the video come together in the months leading up to E3 was an incredible experience—a heady combination of day-to-day decision-making and careful examination, mixed in with a healthy dose of spur-of-the-moment inspiration. While I’ve grown to be a big fan of the Kanye West track “Power” that backs the piece, I have to say it’s the visuals that truly blow me away. My favorite shots include the retracting roof on the Ferrari California and the sliding action shot of the Ferrari 458 on our Alps track at the midway point of the video. And just to reiterate the point made at the beginning of our E3 trailer: Everything you see in this video is in-game footage. If that isn’t enough to get you fired up for Forza 4, then check your pulse—you, sir, may need an ambulance.

BMW Design Challenge Update

There’s just two more weeks left in our Forza Motorsport 4 BWM Design Challenge. We’re cutting off community entries of the 2010 BMW M6 Coupe on Sunday, July 31 so, if you’ve got a design percolating in your mind (or in Photoshop) you’ve still got some time. Over the past few days, we’ve seen some inspired submissions, so judging the winner is going to be tough. It’s great to see submissions that are pushing a bit beyond the boundaries of what you might expect from a “typical” Forza livery… into something a bit more akin to “art.”

To that end, I thought I’d share a submitted design that’s especially close to my heart: Here’s the design my two-year old daughter came up with when I sat her down with an M6 Coupe template and a few markers:

While I question her color choices, her design aesthetic is unassailable, as is her ability to color outside the lines. Unfortunately, she’s not eligible to win the Design Challenge, but perhaps her work will inspire one of you!

Pre-Order Incentives

Have you pre-ordered Forza 4 yet? If so, you’re all set not just for the biggest, baddest racing game of 2011 but also some special gifts coming your way from the Forza Motorsport community team as part of the Forza Motorsport 4 Pre-Order Incentive Program. Each month until the October release of Forza, the community team will be making special gifts for Forza owners. This month we’ll be sending out a specially designed Forza Motorsport 3 car, and we’ll be announcing more new gifts coming in a few weeks. Stay tuned and, get your pre-order in now so you don’t miss the fun.

Because we’ve been getting the question a lot lately: As long as you pre-order Forza 4 and follow the rules that we lay out here, you’re eligible for all the incentive program gifts, whether or not you pre-ordered a month ago or wait for two more weeks. Just make sure you attach your receipt or a screenshot of your order confirmation, and include your Gamertag in the subject line. We’ll take care of the rest!

Well that’s about it for this car-filled edition of the Week in Review. Before I go, however, I wanted to leave you with one final image, a teaser if you will. Some of you might remember that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson made an appearance at our Forza 4 E3 2011 Party and also brought along his murdered-out black-and-red Dodge Challenger. Earlier this week, Turn 10 got another look at this incredible ride… here’s a few pictures to whet your appetite:
