Forza Motorsport 4: Week in Review 1/27/12
At the tail end of last week’s Week in Review, I promised a surprise this week. On Tuesday, we unveiled that surprise: the release of the Launch Bonus Pack for Forza Motorsport 4. This pack combines the cars found in the individual pre-order offers that were tied to retailers before the release of Forza 4, as well as the five cars that were included in the initial run of Forza 4 discs. The full car list:
- 2011 MINI John Cooper Works Clubman
- 2011 Alfa Romeo Giulietti Quadrifoglio Verde
- 2011 Honda CR-Z EX
- 2011 Subaru WRX STI
- 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe
- 1965 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
- 1997 Lexus SC300
- 2011 Tesla Roadster Sport
- 2011 RUF RGT-8
- 2011 Koenigssegg Agera
A few further items that have come up since the announcement and release of this pack that I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of: The Launch Bonus Pack is not included with the purchase of the Forza Motorsport 4 Season Pass. However, each of these cars can be purchased separately so, if you have one or more of the cars in this pack, you can pick and choose accordingly.
VIP Rivals Events Polls Coming Soon
With January almost at an end, a new crop of Rivals Mode events will be arriving in Forza 4’s Community Monthly Rivals channel on Wednesday, February 1. There will be some special additions, including the beginning of our Hyundai Veloster: Forza Motorsport 4 Championship finals, and the next round of our King of the Track challenge (starring a new soon-to-be-announced celebrity). Look for more details on those events next week. In addition, February will also see us kicking off a new program: VIP Rivals Mode events. These Rivals Mode events will be for Forza Motorsport 4 VIP members to enjoy and, while the first event will be available in March, we'll be asking for your help in designing the first event starting next week. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be running a series of polls on our official Facebook page, with the goal of having the Forza community vote on what car, track, and game type they’d like to see in the first VIP Rivals event. Look for more on this soon.
January’s King of the Track Ends on Tuesday!
There are just a few more days to take down C. J. Wilson in our inaugural King of the Track challenge. So far, nearly 100,000 players have logged a time in this event and they’ll all be receiving the 2012 Pagani Huayra as a thank-you (purchase of the January Jalopnik Pack required to redeem). Those players who beat C. J.’s time will also receive a 2003 Ferrari Challenge Stradale unicorn, painted with a C. J. Wilson’s racing team theme. Finally the overall top time will receive a "CJ Wilson Racing" racing suit, signed by the man himself. Get your leaderboard entry in now before time runs out!
Community Bounty Hunter: It’s On!
Last week, we teased our upcoming Community Bounty Hunter program; thanks to everyone who sent feedback and suggestions. As of today, the Bounty Hunt has begun and Fred has posted the details of how the first incarnation of the Bounty Hunter program will work. For those who don’t like to, you know, click links here’s a quick summary:
For this Bounty Hunt, we’re holding a livery contest. The winner of the contest will be the very first community bounty. In addition, the winning design will be the selected gift car during the week that the winner is the community bounty. In the future there will be more ways to be chosen as the bounty, including race/replica design contests, tunes, and more.
We’ll be locking the submissions thread on February 10, so get your designs (and your unicorn car of choice) in now! Good luck to all!
New VIP Car!
Halo fans and VIP members rejoice… and check your Forza 4 inbox! Our latest community VIP car will be rolling in to your inbox soon, featuring everyone’s favorite Spartan in a sweet Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition livery. A special shout-out to Forza community member KCTigerFan, who contributed to the painting and design of this car. Enjoy it!
Bungie Winter Pentathlon
Earlier today, our friends at Bungie held their Winter Pentathlon, an annual celebration of all things gaming. Part of the gaming gauntlet enjoyed by the Bungie crew was some Forza 4 endurance racing, played in a custom-made triple screen racing pod cooked up by one of the Bungie crew. In addition, individual teams painted their own custom liveries to take part in the racing fun and challenged the Bungie and FM communities to vote on their favorite. The winning livery gave the team a head start in the endurance race. Head over to Bungie's official site for a look at their sweet Forza 4 liveries.
The World’s Greatest Drag Race... Twice
Earlier this week, I caught this article on the Motor Trend Web site. Dubbed “The World’s Greatest Drag Race”, the article describes a YouTube video made by Forza 4 player YemiTheOne featuring an 11-car drag race between (among other models) a Ford GT, Corvette ZR1, Ferrari 458, Nissan GT-R, McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera LP570-4, Audi R8 V10, and a Mercedes SLS:
The Forza 4 drag race was inspired by a very similar 11-car drag race conducted by Motor Trend itself:
As you’ll see from watching both videos, the style of the video and the drag race’s results are remarkably similar across both real life and Forza 4. In other words, it’s a case of (automotive) art imitating (automotive) life.
Reviewing the Week in Review
Finally I wanted to leave you with a fun find I ran across in the forums this week: the Forza Community Review. Forza community member The Shadow Edge summarizes the week’s official Forza news and continues on with additional happenings across a variety of different areas of the Forza community including events, services, competitions, along with some commentary of his own. Think of it as a "Week in Review of the Week in Review". It’s a good read and here’s hoping it continues!
Next week, the unveil of our February monthly DLC, our new King of the Track Challenge, and more!
