Forza Motorsport 4: Week in Review 12/16/11
As the holidays approach, I’ve spending the rest of 2011 in the deep south with family and have discovered the joys of working remotely. As much as I like being at the Turn 10 office, there’s something about working in an office where there are minimal distractions to really help you get your mind focused. Of course, while the work has been quick and efficient this week, not everything has gone perfectly. For example, last week I shipped my work Xbox 360 to my parents’ house, thinking it would be here in plenty of time for Wednesday’s Game With Turn 10 event. And while the console did arrive on Wednesday, it didn’t arrive until a few hours AFTER our Forza 4 had ended. As a result, I missed the event—sorry about that. The good news is our next Game With Turn 10 event (and our last of 2011) will be December 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. PST. I’ll be there ready to race and, more importantly, ready to give out tons of unicorn car gifts—like some big, fat, automotive Santa Claus. I hope you can make it too.
Let’s kick off this Week in Review with some awards. Last Saturday, Forza 4 took home the 2011 VGA for Best Driving Game of 2011 and, on Wednesday, Forza 4 won Best Racing Game award from G4TV and X-Play. In addition, over at GameSpot, Forza 4 has been nominated for a Best of 2011 award in both the Driving genre category as well as in the Best Graphics, Technical category. GameSpot will present its award winners on Dec. 19 but you can vote for Forza 4 in the Reader’s Choice awards now. So, you know, go vote!
BMW M5 Contest Wrap Up
Speaking of winners, there’s not too many people that are bigger winners than Germany’s Niklas Krellenburg, who was the champion in the BMW M5 Forza Cup and, as a result, is now the proud owner of a 2012 BMW M5. The finals were held at BMW’s own BMW Welt in Munich and featured a tournament showdown between sixteen Forza 4 experts who qualified either at local BMW dealerships in Germany or by running the BMW M5 Rivals Mode event we held earlier this year. Krellenburg beat fellow Forza fan Günter Lemberger in the championship round to take home the championship and the new car. We hope to have an interview with Krellenburg in the coming days to get his insight on the BMW M5 Forza Cup experience and find out how he’s enjoying his new set of wheels. In the meantime, here’s a (German-language) video overview of the event and a few pictures as well:
We can’t all win a new car like Niklas but, for you painters out there, we’ve got a few new chances for you to be a winner in your own right. This week, Fred started up two paint contests in the FM.net forums, one for Race Replica paints and another for Fantasy paints. In honor of this week’s contest kickoffs, we’ll be offering a special prize to the overall winner of each: a Ferrari hat signed by Ferrari F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, as well as a HKS Time Attack Evolution unicorn car. Good luck to everyone who enters!
Congratulations too, to the winners of the weekly photo contest winners (which you can see in this article). Next week, we’ll be announcing the winners of our recently closed forum-only photo contest. Stay tuned!
Leaderboard Wipe Update
This week, we began the process of wiping the Forza 4 leaderboards of times set by our temporarily removed cars, which we described in the latest edition of Under the Hood. This wipe proceeds on a track-by-track basis through all appropriate car classes, and we expect the wipe to take several days to complete. During this process, we discovered a bug that prevented players from setting new times on a handful of already-wiped leaderboards (including Laguna Seca, Tsukuba, Road America, Sunset Infield and Road Atlanta).
We have identified and fixed the bug that is causing this and, for boards that have not yet been wiped, players will be able to set new times once the old times have been removed. When the leaderboard wipe is complete, we will return to the affected leaderboards and retroactively fix them so players can once again post times. Thanks for your patience during this process; we believe the leaderboards will benefit tremendously from this work. For the latest on the leaderboard wipe, keep your eye on this thread.
December Tune-a-Day Giveaway
Here’s a cool giveaway for the holiday season: Each day in December, AutoArt and Friends are giving out free in-game tunes and paints in the Forza Motorsport 4 equivalent of an Advent calendar. So far, the folks have given away special versions of the Saab 99 Turbo, Fiat 500, Ferrari FXX and much more. And there’s still half a month to go! Check out the thread in the FM.net for all the details on the December Tune-a-Day Giveaway.
One More to Go
Though next week’s Week in Review will be the final edition of the year, we still have some additional news coming in December, including the announcement of our January DLC pack. You can expect that during the final week of the year. I’m looking forward to what you guys have to say about the pack. Once again, get ready for the final Game With Turn 10 event on December 26 and we’ll see you next week!
