The Forza Horizon blitz has officially begun! As of yesterday, we are two months away from the release of this year’s biggest racing game—Forza Horizon will launch from the gate starting on Oct. 23—and we celebrated this week with a bunch of news and screenshots. Here’s a quick recap:

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we released three brand new screenshots of automotive action in the game. Missed them? Well then, check this out:

Then, on Thursday, we kicked off the official car roster reveal for Forza Horizon. Over the next two months, we’ll be showing off every car in the game on our official Twitter and Facebook pages (and eventually here on FM.net too).  This week, we’ve announced some gems—including the 2012 Ultima GTR and the brand-new-to-Forza 2010 Ford Focus RS500... and we’ve got so many more cars to go in the coming weeks.

Even better? We’re giving away prizes as part of our Forza Horizon car unveils. All you need to do to be eligible to win is retweet one of our daily car reveals—it’s that simple! Each day we’ll pick one random winner who has retweeted one of our announcements and that person will win a cool Forza Horizon USB wristband with two DLC codes loaded on it. You can only win once throughout this program and, for full terms and conditions, see the official rules. Good luck to everyone!

But that isn’t all, folks! On Wednesday, we unveiled some great news for Forza Horizon players – the VIP Car pack list! The VIP cars in Forza Horizon are five exotic dream cars that are perfect for taming the twists and turns of Horizon’s Colorado, including the 2012 Pagani Huayra, 2011 RUF Rt 12 R, 2011 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, 2011 Koenigsegg Agera, and the 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder. You can get in on these exclusive VIP cars by ordering the Limited Collector’s Edition of Forza Horizon now. In addition to the above cars, you’ll get perks like special community recognition, gifts from the Forza community team, expanded storefront and gallery space, and more. The Limited Collector’s Edition of Forza Horizon is your backstage pass to awesome Horizon content—so get yours now!

Finally—yes finally!—while screenshots and car reveals are like a cooling balm for you Horizon-fevered fans out there, I know you’re all looking for more cold hard facts on the game. Well, you won’t have to wait much longer as we’ve been showing off the game to media in the U.S. all week long. Look for coverage to hit the Web soon and, of course, we’ll be your one-stop-shop for all the Forza Horizon stories we can get our dirty little mitts around!

Finally—no, really I mean it this time—check out this awesome article from OXM highlighting “Ones to watch: Xbox 360’s most promising developers.” The feature story opens with a spotlight on Forza Horizon developers Playground Games. Here’s a quote:

“[Forza Horizon creative director Ralph] Fulton paints the portrait of a fluid office culture where neither mistakes nor new ideas are allowed to stagnate. ‘Nobody gets too comfortable at any desk. Very regularly if you're working on a new feature with a new group of people, you'll move to that group. The reason things go wrong in development studios is that people aren't talking to each other, so we try to facilitate [communication] as much as possible.’ From the looks of Horizon, the approach is paying off.”

Expect more Forza Horizon news coming very soon but, first, let’s get caught up with everything else happening in the Forza universe this week.

September VIP Rivals Poll #2

The 2012 Summer Olympics may be over but our Olympics-themed VIP September Rivals Mode polls continue. Last week, voters picked Aston Martin as the U.K. manufacturer of choice to race in next month’s VIP Rivals Mode event. This week, we’ve got an international lineup of tracks to choose from. Let your voice be heard on our official Facebook page when the poll is posted later this evening.  In the meantime, you can mull over the choices:

  • Spain – Catalunya
  • Germany – Hockenheim
  • United States – Infineon
  • Italy – Mugello
  • Japan – Suzuka

Made for Mech Weekly Winners

Apologies to everyone who participated in last week’s Made for Mech challenge which, due to a lack of time on behalf of Yours Truly, was extended through to this week. The good news is my delay gave tuners out there another week to work on the super awesome Scion FR-S for this challenge. The more I drive that car in Forza 4, the more I want one in real life…

Since we started the weekly “Made for Mech” challenges a few months ago, I’ve been happy to see a mix of familiar tuners get in on the action, as well as lots of new names each week. It’s true: I can’t try every tune people toss up on the storefront, but it’s always great to find an awesome creation from someone whose work you haven’t sampled before. This week’s list of unicorn winners is no different—a mix of familiar and new, and all of them are talented enough to raise the hairs on the back of my neck with their awesome tuning skills. Well done everyone!

This week, we’re putting the spotlight on the “Revenge of the Giants” Rivals Mode event (created by Forza community member oXI ENIGMAZ IXo as part of our new “community-designed” Rival Mode series. You can find this event in the “Community Monthly” channel of Rivals Mode and here are the relevant details:

Rivals Mode Event: Revenge of the Giants

Course: Ladera Test Track

Event Type: Traffic

Car: 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

Stock Time: 1:08.872 (dirty)

As always, put your best tune on the Forza Motorsport 4 Storefront, this time with the descriptor “MECHBERG JEEP”. I’ll download and try as many tunes as possible next week and award my favorite tunes with a free unicorn car. Good luck!

Japandru’s Community Bounty

Another Turn 10 Community Bounty event is in the books, this time starring Andrew, one of the stars on the Turn 10 track team. This week, we gave out the community bounty side bet gifts from this event and Andrew had the following to say about his Community Bounty experience:

“The Community Bounty reaffirmed how awesome our fans are. The level of competition and activity was staggering. I received great feedback from the community which will impact how we design tracks in the future. Thanks to everyone who participated.”

Look for another Turn 10 Community Bounty in the coming weeks.

Yahoo!’s Ten Most Beautiful Cars

This week, Yahoo! posted a cool feature story on “The 10 Most Beautiful Cars of All Time” and, looking over the list of cars in the story, I was struck by how many of them are available to drive in Forza Motorsport 4 right now. From the 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe to the 1973 Porsche Carerra RS and several others, it was a fun reminder of not just the breadth and depth of the hundreds of cars found in Forza Motorsport 4 – but also of some of the true classics that our favorite game has in store for car fans.

It also got me thinking: Which cars do you consider the most beautiful ever made? Off the top of my head, I’d count the 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400, the Honda S2000 (any year), and the Ferrari Dino 246 GT among my personal favorites, but I’d like to hear yours as well. Let me know which cars you consider the most beautiful beautiful cars (in Forza 4 or otherwise) in this week's Week in Review thread. Next week, I’ll feature some of my favorite responses here in the Week in Review.

September DLC Hint Thread

Next week, we will reveal our next DLC pack for Forza Motorsport 4, arriving in September. I’m so excited about this next pack that it’s difficult to describe, for reasons you’ll see next week. In the meantime, John’s got his much-loved DLC hint thread happening on the FM.net forums so get in there and give us your best guesses as to which cars you think will be in next month’s pack.

Porsche Road Show

Last weekend I had a chance to sneak out of the house for a few hours and trek over to the new Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, WA to attend the Porsche World Road Show. Think of the Road Show as a travelling circus of Porsche awesomeness, where Porsche fans (and prospective buyers) get a chance to try a variety of models from the famed German manufacturer on the race track, to get a chance to see what these amazing machines are truly capable of.

The 2013 Porsche Boxster S ready for action on the autocross track.

During the event, I got a chance to drive a number of different Porsche models, including the Porsche Panamera GTS and the Cayenne; two 911 Carrera models (the Porsche 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S); and the light and lithe Boxster S. Across this spectrum of cars, attendees drove in events as varied as Autocross, standing starts, and, of course, actual track time (an experience I won’t soon forget, especially in the awe-inspiring Carrera S). It should be noted, too, that Ridge Motorsports Park is absolutely insane, in the best possible way – with some awesome elevation changes and a final turn that is reminiscent (and perhaps even scarier) than the famous "Corkscrew" at Laguna Seca. It turned out to be a great blend of awesome machinery, friendly folks, great weather, and a fanastic track to drive — who could ask for a better combination?

Another shot of the Boxster S at rest.

It was also fun to see Porsche fans lining up to take a turn at the pair of Forza Motorsport 4 kiosks that were on-hand at the event. Attendees got a chance to try out their favorite Porsche model (found in the Forza Motorsport 4 Porsche Expansion Pack, of course) and test it out on the track of their choice.

Mobil 1 – Forza 4 Sweepstakes

One final bit before we head out for the weekend: Mobil 1 is offering Forza Motorsport 4 fans a chance to win prizes (including 800 MS Points) just by playing Forza 4 this weekend. All you need to do is download the registration gamer pic on Xbox LIVE or at this link then play Forza 4 between 12:01 PT on Aug. 24 and 11:59 p.m. PT on August 26 to be registered. For full rules, see here.

Well, that about wraps it up for this edition of the Week in Review. It’s been a crazy seven days and Forza fans should get ready for more Horizon car reveals next week, the unveiling of our September DLC pack for Forza 4, and more! Have a great weekend everyone!
